Do you have a picky eater in your family? Most families have at least one of them. All families have preferential eaters. What is the difference between picky and preferential eaters? A preference likes one food item over another. Picky has a more extreme meaning when discussing preferences. Picky can be the extent of too choosey or careful about food options.
Individuals with food preferences usually weigh the taste, texture and nutritional value of a food, and can make an informed decision about if they want to eat it or not. Picky eaters typically put taste and/or texture at the top of their dietary priority lists, and struggle choosing the right food item to consume.
Adults usually mature through being a picky eater. Adults usually just have preferences and are able to make wise nutritional decisions. However, children do not have the maturity to weigh all that goes into what they should eat. That’s why they need your help in choosing the right food to eat that will lead them to be dentally and physically healthy.
