What To Do After Your Wisdom Teeth Removal

Montevallo AL DentistAt Montevallo Family Dentistry, Dr. Shunnarah has the expertise to remove your wisdom teeth with professional and comfortable methods that will give you a peace of mind that you (or your teen) are in good hands. It’s important that you are prepared in the event that you or a member of your family needs this procedure.

Many people (especially teens) are focused on capturing a hilarious YouTube video after the wisdom teeth removal. Have you seen them? They are usually filmed in the car during the ride home from the surgery. We’re not sure how the parent is safely filming and driving simultaneously. Please be careful, and hand another passenger the filming device if you’re the driver.

A funny YouTube video is not guaranteed because every patient’s reaction to the sedation is different. Some are silly, dazed or groggy. Every person is different. However, there are standard things you will need to remember immediately post wisdom teeth removal.

The Day Of Your Surgery Postoperative Instructions:

  •  You will not be able to drive or maneuver large or small equipment or appliances.
  • You may need someone to assist you when walking due to dizziness or nausea.
  • You will want to delay making any important decisions until the next day.
  • Avoid alcoholic drinks and smoking.
  • Try eating Jell-O or yogurt or other soft foods. Drink juices, milk, water, milkshakes and smoothies, but DO NOT suck any drink through a straw.
  • Follow Dr. Shunnarah’s instructions regarding medicines to be taken.
  • You may resume tooth brushing tomorrow. For today, avoid disturbing or probing the surgical area.
